The University of Jamestown softball team opened up their conference season on Tuesday against Mount Marty in Aberdeen, South Dakota. The Jimmies swept the double-header with two wins, the first a 10-2 win in six innings, and the second 6-5 eight inning win.
This was UJ softball’s first game in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, and was technically a home opener for the squad as weather prevented it from being hosted in Jamestown.
Kat Miska was dominant on the mound in the first game, striking out 10 batters in six innings. She was awarded both wins for the day, allowing two runs and only walking one batter.

The Jimmie’s bats were hot in the first game, with notable performances from Sydney Prussia, Meghan Ramage, Miriah Yoder, and Morgan Geiszler. Prussia went 2/3 with a home run and 3 RBI’s. Ramage and Yoder both went 2/3, raking in a combined 3 RBIs. Geiszler went 2/4 with a double, and a walk off single to lock in the Jimmies first conference win.
Katie Merchant started on the mound in game two, striking out two batters before Samm Hamilton made a pitching appearance, striking out another two batters and only giving up 4 hits in 5 innings. Kat Miska closed the the game for the Jimmies, striking out one batter to hold the eighth inning tie.
The second game of the double header was most definitely a team win with a total of seven Jimmies getting hits. Clutch at bats were seen from Katie Reisdorfer, who hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning bringing the Jimmies within one run of a tie. This was followed up by a pinch hitting appearance by freshman, Santina Zito, who put the ball in play allowing for the Jimmies to capitalize on a Mount Marty error to tie the game and extend it into extra innings. Mariah Martinez made her contribution in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI that won the game for the Jimmies.
Tuesday’s wins place the Jimmies in first place within the GPAC. They will continue conference play this weekend with doubleheaders against Briar Cliff University and College of Saint Mary. The games will be held in Sioux City, Iowa.
